WHERE WE LIVE:

We live in the middle of Honduras, in a city of about 80,000 people, named Siguatepeque.

Siguatepeque is an Indian name that means mountain of the woman. In 1689 it became an Indian settlement. Siguatepeque began growing in the late 1800’s and became a city in 1926.

Now it is a city with around 50 neighborhoods and 65 nearby villages.

The altitude is about 3400 feet. It is 10 miles by 5 miles in area. The temperature ranges from the lower 50’s to the lower 90’s. It is surrounded by mountains from 3,937 to 6,371 feet high. It has 4 rivers in its urban and rural areas and 26 small creeks. Many of them dry up in the summer or dry season. 52 % of the states’workers are in agriculture related jobs. In our state, we have about 2000 farmers and only about 1160 of them own their land. The rest rent or borrow land.
